In a peaceful village surrounded by meadows and trees lived six-year-old Sofia. She had a big dream: when she grew up, she wanted to help people in every way she could.
One spring morning, she saw a neighbour trying to repair her garden fence. Sofia went over to help. Under the woman’s supervision, she passed tools and held things in place. “Thank you, little one! You’re very kind,” her neighbour said with a smile.
That made Sofia think. “What if I could do something helpful every day?” And so her Garden of Good Deeds began. She decided to plant one flower for each kind action.
Every morning, she looked for a way to be useful. One day, with her family’s permission, she accompanied the postman and helped with some letters. Another day, she baked biscuits with her parents to thank the firefighters for their work.
For every good deed, she planted a flower. There were tulips for helping neighbours, daisies for sharing toys and roses for afternoons spent reading stories with older people at the care home.
The garden grew and became well known. Neighbours came to admire its flowers and hear the story behind each one. Sofia showed them that children could help make the village better too.
One day, the mayor visited. Impressed by Sofia’s efforts, she suggested a Good Deeds Day, when everyone would spend a little time helping somebody else.
In time, the garden blossomed with friendship and gratitude as well as flowers. Sofia discovered that she did not need to wait until she was grown up to begin making her dream real.
She kept sharing her enthusiasm for helping, reminding everyone that a good deed, however small, can help kindness grow around us.
