Long ago, in a beautiful Roman villa on the coast of Palamós, lived a young woman called Lucía. She was beautiful and clever, with a radiant smile and eyes that reflected the sea. Many young men admired her, but her heart belonged to only one.

Nearby, among the ruins of an ancient Iberian settlement, lived a giant named Aran. One day, while hunting, he saw Lucía walking along the beach. Her beauty captivated him, and little by little they began to talk. They shared dreams, laughter and secrets. Soon their friendship grew into love.

But Lucía’s parents were unhappy.

“A giant cannot be our son-in-law,” they said. “He knows nothing about farming!”

To separate them, they decided to send her to stay with distant relatives.

Obedient but sad, Lucía boarded a galley that would take her far from home. When Aran heard, his heart filled with distress. He ran like lightning to the rocky point where a lighthouse now stands. There he piled stones, pebbles and sand into a great sculpture shaped like a galley.

“Look, Lucía! I don’t want to lose you!” he called.

Curious, the sailors came closer. Seeing the incredible sculpture, they understood that the giant wanted to show his love, not hurt anyone.

Lucía was moved by his effort and chose to return to the beach to speak to him. She found him working carefully and ran to hug him.

“Aran, you’ve shown me that love can overcome obstacles. Let’s speak to my parents. They must understand that you’re a good friend and a kind person.”

They went together to her parents’ home. After hearing what had happened, her parents understood that love did not depend on shape, size or height. Aran promised to learn to farm and help Lucía’s family.

From then on, the young woman and the giant shared happy adventures, walking on the beach, exploring the forest and dreaming together. Their story became part of the rocks and the hearts of the people of Palamós.

If you ever visit the lighthouse, remember that the sea holds more than our eyes can see. Perhaps you will hear an echo of this legend of love, understanding differences and finding a way to be together.
