In a beautiful green meadow full of flowers and trees lived many animals, including a hardworking ant and a cheerful grasshopper. All summer, while the sun shone brightly and the wind whispered through the leaves, the grasshopper spent her days singing and enjoying life.
“La, la, la! What a wonderful life!” she sang happily, without a care.
Meanwhile, the ant worked tirelessly, collecting food for the coming winter. She hurried back and forth, carrying grains of wheat and little leaves to her home.
“Ant, why are you working so hard? Come and sing with me!” the grasshopper said with a laugh.
“I’m storing food for winter. When the cold arrives, there will be nothing to eat,” the ant answered seriously.
“Don’t worry! There’s plenty of time!” cried the grasshopper, and she carried on singing.
Winter arrives
Time passed quickly. Summer gave way to autumn, and soon winter arrived. Leaves fell from the trees, and the wind became cold and sharp. The fields, once full of life, were covered in snow.
The grasshopper had stored no food and grew very hungry. She searched everywhere, but found nothing to eat.
“Oh, no! What shall I do?” she said sadly.
She thought of the ant, who had worked so hard, and hopefully decided to visit her.
An important lesson
The grasshopper reached the ant’s home and knocked.
“Ant, please help me! I have nothing to eat, and I’m so hungry!” she pleaded.
The ant, who was generous and caring, opened the door and saw her shivering in the cold.
“Come in, Grasshopper. I’ll share my food with you,” she said kindly.
The grasshopper stepped into the warm, comfortable home. The ant offered her food, and she ate gratefully.
“Thank you, Ant. You have been so kind. I’ve learned that I need to prepare better for the future,” she said humbly.
The ant smiled.
“It’s important to enjoy life, Grasshopper, but we also need to plan ahead and work so that we have what we need when difficult times come.”
The grasshopper nodded, grateful for the lesson she had learned that winter. From then on, she decided to work alongside the ant to prepare for the cold days, while still enjoying the warmth of summer.
