Long, long ago, in the seaside village of Vilassar de Mar, lived a brave captain known as Peroi, although his real name was Pere Mas i Roig. Everyone called him el Pigat, the Freckled One, and he was said to be the most famous sailor in the village’s seafaring tradition. Peroi was known for his adventures smuggling gold and precious metals, and for his remarkable ability to escape his pursuers.

One day, while sailing distant seas, he reached an enchanted island ruled by a stern and powerful governor. There he met the governor’s daughter, Lucía, a young woman with bright eyes and a courageous heart. They fell deeply in love, but knew their love would face difficulties: the governor would never allow his daughter to leave with a smuggler.

Determined to stay together, Peroi and Lucía made a plan. One night, Peroi hid her aboard his ship, high up on the mainmast. When the governor discovered his daughter was missing, he ordered his men to follow the ship. But however hard they searched, they could not find her.

Meanwhile, Peroi and Lucía sailed towards home, dreaming of a happy life together. They did not know another adventure lay ahead. Near Cabrera stood the feared Cova de les Encantades, the Cave of the Enchanted Ones, said to be the hiding place of wicked witches.

As they approached the cave, a mysterious voice called out:

“If you wish to pass, you must prove your courage.”

Peroi answered fearlessly:

“We are here for love, and nothing makes us braver.”

Impressed by their courage and love, the witches decided to test them.

They summoned a terrible storm, with enormous waves and furious winds. Peroi sailed skilfully, keeping the ship steady and protecting Lucía. When the storm died down, the witches appeared and said:

“You have passed the test. Go on your way, and may your love be welcomed!”

Peroi and Lucía reached Vilassar de Mar, where they were greeted as heroes. The village celebrated their return with a grand party, and from that day on, the tales of their adventures were told again and again.

And so Peroi and Lucía lived happily, always remembering their adventures and showing that love and courage could overcome any obstacle. Whenever people looked out to sea, they remembered the deeds of the great Captain Peroi, el Pigat, and the witches of Cabrera’s enchanted cave.
