One morning at school, some students were doing a lab experiment.

Josep was a rebellious and rude boy and was classmates with Paula, a kind and responsible girl.

To do the experiment, they needed to protect themselves. Paula tied back her long, blonde hair and put on her goggles, lab coat, and gloves. Josep had short hair and didn’t need to tie it back, but he only put on his lab coat and gloves. Paula quietly reminded him that he also needed goggles, but he replied that they weren’t necessary for that experiment.

When the teacher arrived and found the students ready, he began to explain the experiment:

For this experiment, we will use: egg white, a balloon, baking soda, and vinegar.

Once all the students had gathered their materials, they began the experiment. Paula did everything very slowly and carefully, but Josep was in a hurry and wanted to finish quickly. Paula approached him and said again:

“Josep, put on your goggles, it’s safer!”

“It’s okay! I don’t need them,” Josep said.

They put the baking soda in the balloon with the help of a funnel and the vinegar and egg white in an Erlenmeyer flask. When they placed the balloon in the flask, the baking soda fell in and suddenly lots of bubbles started to appear.

“FSSSSSSSSS!” went the bubbles.

The balloon began to inflate a lot. Josep got too close to get a better look, and suddenly… BAM! The balloon popped and some liquid splashed into Josep’s eye, and a piece of the balloon hit his face and hurt him.

“Ow!” Josep cried.

The teacher went to see what had happened, and when he saw Josep with liquid in his eye, he quickly helped him wash his face with water. Luckily, it was just a minor scare. “That’s why it’s so important to wear safety glasses in the lab,” the professor said calmly.

Josep put on his safety glasses and learned a very important lesson: In the lab, you have to follow the rules to stay safe!

And from then on, Josep learned many more things from Paula, and together they had great experiments.

That’s all, folks!
