Laia, a twelve-year-old girl with blonde hair and bright, intelligent eyes, faced an exciting but frightening challenge: starting secondary school. After years at primary school, it was time to begin a new chapter somewhere bigger and unfamiliar.
Although she seemed confident, she had a knot in her stomach that would not go away. She feared the unknown. Would she make friends? How would she manage the new schoolwork? Still, her worries did not stop her. She knew she had to take a step forwards and discover this new world.
On her first day, Laia crossed the playground feeling both nervous and excited. She watched the other students. Some seemed just as anxious, while others appeared unshakably confident. She wondered where she would fit in.
Entering her classroom for the first time, she saw both new and familiar faces. The teachers seemed friendly, and the other students looked just as nervous and expectant as she felt. Laia chose a seat by the window and took a deep breath, ready to face whatever came next.
Over the first few days, she took small steps towards meeting people. She spent breaks with other students, joined in during lessons and began to understand the school routine. Slowly, her fear turned into curiosity and excitement about what lay ahead.
In time, Laia grew more comfortable. She made friends, learnt to organise her lessons and discovered new interests and passions. The school that had seemed so unfamiliar and intimidating became a place of opportunity and personal growth.
Laia approached her new adventure with courage and determination. She learnt that, despite her first fears, every challenge could help her grow and discover new sides of herself. And so she wrote the first chapter of this exciting new stage in her life.
