It all began in a thick green forest, where a saffron milkcap mushroom called Rovi lived. He was famous for his unmatched speed, which made him extremely proud. Not a day passed without him boasting to the animals about his abilities. One afternoon he met Gina, an elderly, wise fox known for her cleverness.

Confident in his abilities, Rovi soon began to brag. He told Gina that he could run faster than any animal in the forest and that no one could beat him in a race. Gina had seen a great deal in her life and understood the dangers of pride. She decided to teach him a lesson.

With a knowing smile, she accepted his challenge. She suggested racing from the great oak to the stream running through the woods. Certain of victory, Rovi agreed at once, thinking it would be an easy way to prove his superiority again.

The other animals gathered to watch. Before the race, Rovi warmed up and boasted to the crowd, while Gina sat quietly in a tree’s shade, observing him.

When the time came, they took their places at the starting line. At the signal, Rovi shot forwards with all his strength, running at an impressive speed. Gina calmly waited a few moments before setting off.

As Rovi raced along, Gina took a different path: a shorter, less obvious route she knew from her years in the forest. Exhausted by his effort and certain he was about to win, Rovi did not even notice that she was following another trail.

When he reached the stream, he was astonished to find Gina already resting there. He could hardly believe it. The fox explained that strength and speed are not always the best tools. Intelligence and experience can often be more valuable.

The race taught Rovi a lasting lesson. He learnt that pride and arrogance can blind us, and that the fastest runner does not always win. From then on, he valued the other animals’ qualities and treated them with greater respect, understanding that everyone has their own strengths and skills.
